Following a confirmed case of a Coronavirus infection involving one of University of Ghana’s students, management of the university all temporarily suspended all public gatherings including lectures and social, religious as well as sporting-related gatherings.
All international events and travel abroad have been temporarily banned as well.
Meanwhile the university remains open, with authorities assuring its residents that all is being done to ensure that they are safe, stressing that the risk of infection is low.
In an update on the disease released by the Office of the Registrar, it revealed that the patient is a nonresident student who recently returned from an international trip.
“An imported case of COVID-19 infection has been identified at the University of Ghana involving one of our non-resident students who returned to Ghana from an international trip. Consequently, the University is updating its COVID-19 preparedness and response communique with additional recommendations in this release.
We wish to assure the University community that these measures are preventive and precautionary. The risk of COVID-19 infection to individuals in our community remains very low”, the release said in part.
